On January 11, 2026, our group participated in the Swiss Chemical Landmark ceremony in Arosa, marking 100 years since Erwin Schrödinger spent his Christmas vacation in this Alpine village and developed the equation that bears his name and laid the foundations of quantum mechanics.
To mark the centenary, the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) designated Arosa as a historical site of chemistry and unveiled a commemorative plaque at the house “Panarosa,” where Schrödinger spent his consequential holiday. Fabian contributed a talk titled “Von Wellenfunktionen zu Molekülen und Materialien – wie Schrödinger die Chemie veränderte,” exploring how the Schrödinger equation underpins modern materials science and quantum chemistry.
A wonderful occasion to reflect on how a few weeks of inspired thinking in the Swiss Alps, a century ago, still drives the research we do today.
